I was mucking around last night and came up with another way to get the word out about our new 5.25% term deposit:
- login to your facebook account
- update your facebook status (NAME is) to read: looking at NSCU’s new 5.25% term deposit. $1000 min deposit, 18 month term. Offer ends Oct. 13. www.nscu.com/greatrate
- when your friends log into facebook they’ll all see this status update – like a free ad to your social network.
Another option as well is twitter. Here’s some do’s and don’t’s for Twitter marketing.

I think that is a good idea (I like using it on Twitter better, though.) You can also (as you probably know) post links that will show in everyone’s news feed.
Another good idea (if you like spamming your friends) is to write a note about it and say they were all mentioned in it. That way when they log in to see what the note is about, they will see your little promotion.
Good suggestions Taylor.
The jury is out as to whether or not facebook is a viable business/marketing tool. I am in the camp of the former. I think the ocassional marketing plug in your facebook status or notes is a great idea as long as long as it’s just that – ocassional. I agree with Taylor – I prefer Twitter for this. I think we’ll have to get someone to enhance the Twitter app so it automatically updates your facebook status too. Any takers?
Caleb, there’s a Twitter app for Facebook that run your updates in the opposite direction, if that helps.
@ Geof – thanks. I have a Twitter app updating in my facebook New Feed, but haven’t found an app that updates my facebook Profile status.
