What next?

By next week, I wrap up the last of my UBC web analytics courses (I’m hoping I can maintain my A+ grade average). What’s next? I’m not sure.

One option is to expand my current role and grow the web analytics side of things. There’s lots I haven’t been able to do and much more to learn. Personally I’d really like to find a web analytics mentor (any volunteers?) — someone I can learn from, share experiences and challenge me to do better. Someone who can teach me to fish. I keep thinking back to Avinash and his growth at Intuit working for and with great people.

Another option is to move on and seek out new challenges at another company. Many graduates of the program have. Some think I’ve been where I am too long. At times I agree. Other times I see tons of opportunity in a company where opportunities are endless.

What do you think?

Hey! Congrats!
Did you see my post about “should you change job?“, it might help you a bit deciding if it’s time to do a move. In the end, as Avinash said in a comment about that post, the other question is “are you happy?”.

Two years ago I was ready to go freelance and be 100% dedicated to web analytics, than I found my current job. I have a very good position for an outstanding employer, but still, I will make the move because I have a passion for web analytics that can only be achieved by being in total (at least more) control of my career.

My word of advice: don’t look at the ton of opportunities, think about what you want to do first. There will always be what seems to be a better job 🙂

Hi Stéphane, thanks for the comments. Did see your post and have read it a couple times. Good advice.

Hi Scott,
I was on the same course as you which has now all finished – as of yesterday! Like you, that was my last module. All done! finished! finito!
Shame you’re not at emetrics – would have been good to have a drink to celebrate..
