I’m a dad, husband, ultra runner, drummer, and the guy who played shaker on Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean (ok, that last part is made up).

I help companies get value from their products and communities. Previous roles have been in product leadership, product management, and UX design with a focus on coaching and leading product teams and producing digital goodness.

You may have even read about me in the book Design Leadership: How Top Design Leaders Build and Grow Successful Organizations (O’Reilly, 2015) by the always-fantastic Richard Banfield.

‘Benry’ for those wondering, is a Japanese word that roughly translates as “useful” or “helpful”, or at least that is what I have been told (anyone who speaks/writes Japanese care to clarify?). A friend suggested it and it kind of stuck as a descriptor of my work and approach to solving problems. Plus I liked the short domain name. Ron Shevlin noted once that a translation came up as “useful” and “management” and he couldn’t help but remark on the paradox.
